Devendran Kumaran, an ardent Fijian novelist, is extremely passionate in all which he does. Besides being a husband and dad, he is an unprecedented artiste of crafts. He writes openly and in heart-warming styles, fearlessly bringing emotionally compelling characters into his works.
His first book, an autobiography, was published in 2010. Since then, Kumaran has published five more literary works, including a murder thriller, a political satire, a therapy/advisory on healing via mindfulness, and is currently finalising his 7th publication which is a compilation of 4 stories discussing freedom/choices against grief for lack of it. Born in the 50s, of cane farming parents, DK grew up in the era of material scarcity. That life experience, pivotal in the days of hardship, continues to be an inspiration and an anchoring source for his everyday life and writing. His creativity extends beyond literature and into 3D construction, where his craftsmanship reflects rare styles and is highly qualitative.
Kumaran’s life story has regularly appeared on national TV, in newspapers, and in magazines, both in Fiji and New Zealand. For almost 40 years, DK has also spoken publicly on a wide range of subjects through radio and TV broadcasts, and via radio talkback shows.
DK’s life is deeply family oriented. Widely known as Guru, he is always encouraging and empowering both family members and others. His current medium of communication is SMS, creative stickers, and heart-to-heart discussions. He reads widely, and is currently enjoying the power of AI, mainly via creative use of ChatGPT. He is highly romantic. Kumaran lives independently but with love & support from his two children and their spouses, and is even more self-reliant after his partner of 52 beautiful years, Maya, passed away on Christmas of 2025.
